Visit the Elephant Orphanage on the way to the Sigiriya rock fortress – A palace in the sky – This rock fortress was a Royal citadel for more than 18 years, with famous frescoes. The central cultural fund has restored Sigiriya’s 5th Century water Gardens to its former glory which spreads in an area of nearly one hectare.
Overnight at Kandalama beside the Kandalama lake
After breakfast tour the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, the capital of Sri Lanka from 11th – 13th century, which contains some splendid & spectacular statues, large shrines, & well preserved large stupas, the Gal vihare – a rock shrine, has four Buddha statues, two seated one standing & one reclining. The Vata-da-ge (temple) is a unique creation of Sri Lankan artists.
Overnight at Kandalama Hotel
On the way to Kandy visit the famous Dambulla cave temple on a rock. Some caves dates to 1st century B.C. There are more than 130 Buddha statues, statues of Gods & Kings are also found here.
Kandy is Sri Lanka’s Hill Capital, and the last Kingdom of Sinhalese, nestled in the mountains 1600 ft above the sea level. One of the most fascinating spellbinding towns in the country. Visit the Royal palace & the Golden Roofed “ Dalada Maligawa” , The temple of the sacred tooth Relic of Lord Buddha.
